This week we tried to determine how energy flows through an ecosystem. All energy starts from the sun. The energy from the sun helps the producers (plants) grow in an ecosystem. From there primary consumers (herbivores) eat the plants taking in their energy. Next, the secondary consumers (carnivores) eat other animals and collect that energy. At the end of their lives, when an organism dies, decomposers (fungus, mold and bacteria) break down an organism and then that energy goes back into the soil which then goes back into the plants. |
