1. How are Animals Like their Young?

To start off this unit I had students look at a series of 20 animals and their offspring. Students jotted down things they observed between the two animals. Students noticed very quickly that some animals look very similar to their parents while others do not. Some animals exhibit very different physical features which made it hard to match parent to baby. The kids made the following generalizations about animals and their young:
