This week our ecocolumns are ready for us to put in our fish and our snails and we couldn't be more excited! In order to know how our organisms will survive in our ecocolumns, we needed to learn a little more about snails and fish. The students had a chance to observe our fish (red tailed barbs and minnows) as well as our pond snails with magnifying glasses. We recorded observations and wrote down all of our wonderings. We took it a step further by learning all about fish, their parts and how they have specific adaptations that help them survive in the water. Students recorded the motion of the snails, taking a closer look at how the snails move, what body parts they have that helps them travel and how they play an important role in the pond ecosystem. In addition to examining our fish and snails, students had a chance to look at the Elodea and Duckweed we put in our ecocolumns last week. They are aquatic plants that are growing in our aquariums and will provide a source of food for the the fish and snails we are putting in our aquarium. They also provide the oxygen that the fish and snails need to breath. |
