This week we are switching gears a bit to apply what we know about adaptations and survival to design bird beaks. I posed the idea that they are birds on an island that have access to fruit loops and rice crispies but each bird has a specific diet. Students were partnered up and asked to design a bird beak that could pick up a certain food source (either rice crispies or fruit loops). Students were given a set list of materials with which to build. They spent the first afternoon desinging blueprints and sharing ideas with one another.
