In this lab our kindergarten scientists will try their hand at engineering! They will be designing a technology that keeps me safe from the sun. I am stranded on a deserted island and need them to design and build me a device that keeps me safe from the sun. Students used their creativity and what they know about properties of materials to help build me boats, hats, water slides, tents and other forms of shelter. They each designed a blueprint and then built their prototypes. We tested it by placing a small doll under their device. Then we rotated the device 360 degrees to show the rotation of the earth. If the doll remained covered with a visible shadow then they accomplished their task. If they were not able to see a shadow, they used observations to make their improvements. Below are pictures of their design and building process. |
