This week we had a chance to take a closer look at the garlic that had grown so far. It was amazing to see how fast and well our garlic had grown! To all of our scientists surprise the garlic in the shoe box did in fact grow a little bit. Compared to the garlic grown in the light, the garlic in the dark was covered in fungus, the cotton turned yellow, there were fewer roots and the sprouts were a pale greenish yellow. The students reported that the garlic in the shoe box looked unhealthy. We discusses as a class as to whether plants in the shoe box would continue to grow over time or if they would die. The students thought that they would eventually die because they weren't getting what they needed We will be taking a closer look at this idea on Wednesday. Below are pictures of the students observations and samples of garlic plants. |
